A sub-committee of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Wednesday took exception over performance of Ministry of Housing and Works and directed the Secretary Housing to provide record to the audit officials within a week.
The meeting of the sub-committee was held in the Parliament House chaired by Syed Naveed Qamar and reviewed the audit paras for the fiscal year 2003-04. The Chair asked the ministry officials to act promptly failing which a privilege motion would be moved to National Assembly.
During the meeting, officials of the housing ministry said that a high level committee had been constituted to investigate the matter of non-provision of record to the audit officials and it would present its report soon.
To this, Naveed Qamar observed that in the earlier meeting, the sub committee had asked the ministry to provide record in a week.The Committee also asked the ministry to pursue court cases properly for their early disposal.
Naveed Qamar also directed the Ministry of Housing and Works to improve its performance and asked the Secretary to tighten control of the ministry as well as attached departments.
The committee also reviewed the audit paras of Aviation Division and Muhammad Ali Gardezi, Secretary Aviation Division informed the committee that Sindh government has agreed to handover them the land Hyderabad in return of land used in fly over of Shahrah-e-Faisal Karachi.
Secretary also told the committee that Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has returned Rs 35 billion to the Civil Aviation Authority.He said Turkmenistan, Libya and other countries owed around US$ 193,000 to the PIA and division was trying its best with the help of Ministry of Foreign Affairs to recover the amount on priority basis.
